PowerDB licensing is enforced by a hardware key (often called a "dongle")
that plugs into a USB port. Without a key PowerDB will run in "reader" mode.
This key allows you to easily move a single license between machines installed with PowerDB.
• If a USB Key is lost, you must purchase a new license at full cost to replace the USB Key.
• If a USB Key gets broken, return it to our office and we will replace it for $50.
• If a legacy software key is lost (e.g., due to harddrive failure) there is a $50 replacement fee. The lost license may be replaced with a USB key or a software key.
This installation could affect multi-user access to your data. In order to synchronize data or have multiple users connect to a database, all machines at a company must be running the same major release of PowerDB. If your company is using version 7 or earlier, then you will need to coordinate updating all machines to version 8.

** UPGRADE NOTICES **
- data stored with versions 8.0.22 or newer cannot be displayed by earlier versions
Data that is saved using PowerDB 8.0.22 or higher cannot be read by earlier versions of the software. The data will synchronize fine, but versions released before 8.0.22 will not display this data when forms are opened. If an earlier version of PowerDB is used to resave the set of data, then the original data will be overwritten.
So if one user at a company has updated to 8.0.22 or higher, then it is important for all users at the company to also update.
- If you are updating from a version earlier than Version 6
please contact our office for instructions to help you
with the upgrade process.
- When you install PowerDB on your master database
machine all LAN users need to be logged out of PowerDB.
You will need to install the same major revision on all LAN machines
before proceeding with data entry and on all field
machines before synchronizing again. NOTE: Do not
forget to update any intermediary databases (i.e.,
databases on USB drives used for synchronization.)
